Falling Northward by Hazel Cline (Coming Soon)

Meet Hazel Cline: Hazel Casimer Cline is a nonbinary writer and witch currently living in Atlanta. They are an object of mostly unknown origin. What we do know is that, having emerged from a drear cabbage patch early one morning approximately a century ago, and, having an appearance and shape not dissimilar to that humble plant, Hazel nearly made a savory addition to a local family’s hearty vegetable soup. However, Hazel was, just in time, snatched away by a three-legged crow. Originally intended to be food for the crow's hungry hatchlings, Hazel was lucky that the crow's parental instincts proved strong enough to see past the unshapeliness of Hazel’s personage and to allow for sympathy to grow in its downy breast. In short, it took pity on Hazel and began caring for them as if it had laid them itself.

Since fledging, Hazel has endeavoured to make their bird family proud by following the magical practices learned in their care. Every week, Hazel meets with their bird friend, Samjogo, and they write poetry together, discuss the goings-on, and make big plans. They have developed their own syllable-based sigil language, undertaken many journeys together on astral planes, and made many friends in unusual places and forms.

On the earthly plane, Hazel has been involved in both local and international Surrealist communities. Hazel served as an editor of Peculiar Mormyrid Journal for nearly ten years and participated in the Atlanta Surrealist Group, which met regularly for several years. Hazel co-organized three Surrealist exhibitions in Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama. Currently, Hazel is focusing on their writing, but they also work with film, experimental music, and visual art, including collage, drawing, and painting.
