FAQs

What difference is there between Disarticulated Press and self-publishing?

Disarticulated Press uses Amazon KDP and IngramSpark to publish an author’s work. The press handles all accounts on all platforms, including print and digital. IngramSpark registers the book worldwide for distribution and makes the work available in bookshops, e-pub platforms, libraries and other networks. Amazon KDP is a limited platform that sells direct from the Amazon website. The level of distribution for Disarticulated Press and self-publishing is the same, but Disarticulated Press uses the IngramSpark platform to promote and sell books in bookstores and online. Disarticulated Press organises and promotes the author’s work globally. The work is then added to the Disarticulated Press website to join the community of writers featured there.

What royalties go to Disarticulated Press and to the author?

The author retains 75% of all royalties, 25% allocated to Disarticulated Press for associated costs. This is well below the industry average, as Disarticulated Press aims to promote authors and their work, and offer fair compensation to authors for their time and efforts. The royalties are calculated after the distribution outlets take their cut, so 25% is only from the revenue, not the whole price of the book.

What does Disarticulated Press offer?

Disarticulated Press offers:

  • Provision of ISBNs for print, kindle, and e-pub
  • Editorial service
  • Formatting and .pdf ready versions for print and e-book
  • Up to two proof copies of the work before publication
  • Ongoing support in marketing and promotion of the title

What rights stay with the author and go to Disarticulated Press?

Disarticulated Press requires First Publication Rights, but all other rights remain with the author. This means that if they wish to take their publication elsewhere later, they are free to do so. Authors retain full control and rights for their publication. If the book is optioned, Disarticulated Press will receive 25% of the sale of the work.

Who controls the cover art for publications?

Cover art is part of the service and can be created by Disarticulated Press for the author. However, we know that some authors like to retain control of their own artwork. In this case, authors are free to create or source their own artwork as long as it is original work or created by Artificial Intelligence or similar models that offer free rights to their work.

When and how does the author get paid?

The author is paid quarterly directly from Disarticulated Press. An invoice of sales will be supplied with each transaction.

What time frame can an author expect their work to be completed and published?

Once the work is complete, the publication will be ready in 60 days from that date. However, this can take a little longer if there are unforeseen complications. We will be in regular communication, so you will be kept informed of any changes. We aim to have your work published and ready for sale as soon as we can.
